About this work
Arlo Sinclair’s second screen print, Binary Counting, is an 18-layer hand-pulled edition enhanced with genuine copper leaf — applied and sealed by hand to reflect the tactile quality of his original mixed media works.
Produced again with K2 Screens, the piece explores the tension between simplicity and complexity in modern computing. “It’s a foundation of elegant simplicity,” Sinclair says, referring to binary code. “And layered on top of this is deep complexity... until we return again to simplicity. It’s in that symmetry that I find beauty.”
The copper element references not only retro computing components but also the fragility of memory — echoing Sinclair’s wider mission to preserve and critique digital history. “This is a print I’m immensely proud of,” the artist notes, “even if our coffee consumption tripled getting it made.”
